About the Centre
The Sokoto Energy Research Centre was established in 1982 by the Senate of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, and later that year the Federal Government designated the University as the national Centre for Solar Energy Research. Since 1988 the Centre has been supervised and funded by the Energy Commission of Nigeria.
SERC carries out research and development, public enlightenment and manpower development across solar thermal, solar photovoltaic, biomass, wind and meteorology, and small hydropower.
Vision
To spearhead the mitigation of environmental damage and the alleviation of poverty through the promotion of environmentally friendly energy sources in Nigeria.
Mission
To expand the frontiers of knowledge in the harnessing and utilisation of solar and other renewable energy resources in Nigeria.
